DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Ladies Guild of Our Lady of Ransom Church in Mechanic Falls announces its Annual Craft Fair in the new, expansive Father John Dougher Hall on Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. With the larger size hall there will be more room for additional tables compared to previous years. We welcome any crafters who would like to participate to contact Josie at 207-345-3274 for more information. Cost of a table is $20 in advance and not refundable. A table will be provided. In addition to a variety of holiday crafts, there will be basket raffles, a bake sale and light luncheon. All proceeds will benefit the church and community.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am downsizing and that includes parting with a large collection of hard-bound books. One is a large (quarto) book with linen cover titled, “CONAD HISTORY Communications Zone European Theater of Operations, United States Army, 1944-45.” It has several color plates of photos and art, all with glassine or tissue overlays, as well as hundreds of black and white photographs. It’s a stunning book and one that might appeal to any World War II buff. I will gladly give it to a good home.

There are also approximately 50 gorgeous hardcover books on history and art with bright color plates from “American Heritage” and “Horizons.”

I loved collecting all these books, but it’s time to find them another home. I have been attempting to find libraries, nonprofits, prisons, homes for the aged, advocacy groups, veterans groups, or researchers who might want them, but I’m only partially retired and haven’t had the time to chase these all down. For me, the joy is in knowing they will serve a useful purpose somewhere. In addition to books, there are collections of beautiful glossy magazines that could be in waiting rooms or used for craft projects. I could also help transport these around the area.
