LEWISTON — The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce will hold its next Power Trip spotlighting Sophia’s House from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Sophia’s House, 143 Blake St.
Those attending will have the opportunity to tour the old convent before its restoration, and learn about the plans for restoring the historic building to create a place where women can restore their lives.
Klara Tammany, executive director of the Center for Wisdom’s Women in Lewiston, and Sarah Barton of Americorps VISTA will discuss what leads women to be trafficked or exploited, addicted and incarcerated, as well as the obstacles they face in restoring their lives, and how Sophia’s House will support women in overcoming the odds against them.
Those attending may bring a lunch.
The event is provided as part of the chamber’s Power Trips Series. Power Trips take people to on-site locations to learn more about fellow chamber investors and see their business/organization in action.
Registration is free but space is limited. For more information or to register, call the Chamber at 207-783-2249.
