WATERFORD — The music series Sharps on the Flat will present its second concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Waterford Congregational Church on Plummer Hill Road in Waterford Flat village.
The 18-member Chamber Singers, a division of the Maine Music Society Chorale of Lewiston-Auburn, will perform. The a cappella group that formed five years ago and its repertoire includes a mix of genres, including Renaissance pieces, madrigals, spirituals, ballads and contemporary songs. The group has performed at events such as Art Walk LA, Twelfth Night, Veterans’ Day, and the Battle of the Blends.
The LA Winds Woodwind Quintet will perform Oct. 14. All five musicians are members of the Auburn Community Concert Band. They play flute, piccolo, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon.
The program will feature classical pieces by Gounod, Faure, Elgar, Bach, Mozart. Two additional pieces will be “Greensleeves” and “Happy Together,” a late 1960s song made popular by the pop group The Turtles.
The third concert in the series will be by the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble. The Russian group will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Church sanctuary.
There is no charge for the concerts, but donations will be accepted and after expenses, proceeds will be used to support the Sweden Food Pantry.
The church Music Committee, under the leadership of Music Director Jane Morse of Waterford, is organizing the concert series, which was launched in June to a full house in the church sanctuary.
