LEWISTON – Supporters of Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry had a visit Saturday afternoon from the candidate’s daughter, Alexandra Kerry, as well as “Days of Our Lives” actress Deirdre Hall and Democratic U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher of California.
About 50 area Democrats waited in front of the Democratic headquarters for more than an hour while the Women on the Move for Kerry tour was delayed in Waterville. The group was rewarded with handshakes, autographs and photos with the women.
“Thank you so much for everything you are doing,” Kerry told the crowd.
“It means so much to my family. Hopefully, actually I demand, that you be as sleepless as we are. Go out there and keep knocking on the doors. We really can’t do this without you. There are 16 days left and just use every single one of them so that when you wake up on Nov. 3, you can say I did every single thing possible.'”
Asked to comment on the effect her father’s health care plan will have for Maine women, Kerry said that “it’s something that will provide for all women, so that they’ll be able to take care of their children because they are able to take care of themselves. And also invest in research – give appropriate amounts of money invested into HIV research and protection.”
The Women on the Move for Kerry tour made only a brief stop in Lewiston between an 11a.m. round-table discussion in Waterville and a 3:30 p.m. concert in Portland. Actresses Sharon Stone and Glenn Close, who had been traveling with the tour, were unable to attend the Lewiston event, to the disappointment of some fans.
