PARIS — A Bethel man was killed early Sunday morning on Route 26 after veering off the road and striking a utility pole.

Detective Sgt. Michael Dailey of the Paris Police Department said Luke Davis, 19, was driving north on Route 26 when his 2005 Subaru Outback crossed the centerline, went off the left side of the road and crashed through a chain-link fence at KBS Builders Inc. Dailey said Davis’ vehicle then struck and broke a utility pole and rolled on its side.

“Emergency personnel needed to wait for Central Maine Power to shut down the power grid in the area before they could safely access and extricate Davis from his vehicle,” Dailey said.

Davis was wearing his seat belt, he added.

Dailey said that while the Paris Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash, “neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors at this point.”

A section of Route 26 was closed for several hours while the investigation took place, Dailey said.

Norway Police Department, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Paris Fire Department and PACE Ambulance assisted.
