LEWISTON — Rosaire R. Mathieu, 74, of Greene passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, surrounded by his loving family in Lewiston. Rosaire was born in Lewiston to Armand and Lauretta Mathieu on May 14, 1944. He went to Lewiston schools. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Michaud, on Nov. 28, 1964, at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. He worked as a truck driver and then office manager for Batesville Casket Company, retiring in 2016.
Rosaire was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, bragging about them whenever he could. Ross enjoyed spending time with those he loved. He was an avid antique collector who always liked to make a good deal. He enjoyed walking and the outdoors keeping a meticulously landscaped yard that he was so proud of. One of his favorite things was the weekly Sunday dinner he would cook for his family. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus.
Rosaire was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, on March 9, 2008, his mother and father and three brothers, Joseph, Donald and Richard. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Mathieu and her husband Ron Meijer of Australia, daughter Lori Bowen and her husband Ricky Bowen of Lewiston and one son Kevin Mathieu and his wife Kathy Mathieu of Auburn, two granddaughters Kassandra Bowen and Megan Struck and one grandson Mathieu Bowen. He is also survived by five brothers, Louis Mathieu, Burtrand Mathieu, Raymond Mathieu, Maurice Mathieu and Matti Kniva Spencer and one sister, Cecile Daniels.
The family of Rosaire wishes to extend their sincere thanks to his medical team at Central Maine Medical Center and d’Youville Pavilion.
Visitation will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home in Lewiston from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus. Services will conclude with committal prayers and interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston.
