PALMYRA – A Hartland woman was killed and her daughter critically injured Wednesday afternoon after her car veered into a ditch and hit the embankment of a driveway on Route 152.

Maryellen Bancroft, 43, died at the scene, Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputy Mathew E. Cunningham told the Morning Sentinel.

Her daughter, 22-year-old Shannon Bancroft of Hartland, was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital, where she was in critical condition.

Cunningham said that Shannon Bancroft’s two daughters, an infant and a toddler, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation, Cunningham said.
