MANCHESTER, N.H. — Sister Marie-Marthe Rita Couture, PM (Sr. Ste-Marie de l’Emmanuel), 92, of Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, died Aug. 24 at her residence.
She was born in Chisholm on Dec. 3, 1925, to Rosaire and Anais (Shank) Couture. She made her religious profession on Feb. 2, 1946. Sister Marie-Marthe obtained her BA degree in education at Rivier University. She taught and was a principal in various schools in New Hampshire. For 10 years she was involved in CCD. She retired at PMA in Hudson, N.H., in 1990 and in Manchester, N.H., in 2015.
She was predeceased by her parents; five brothers, Emmanuel Couture, Toussaint Couture, Placide Couture, Aurelien Couture, Athanase Couture; and three sisters, Cecile Dupont, Carmel Garneau, Blanche Bilodeau.
The family includes five sisters, Marguerite Slovak, Muriel Desjardins, Georgette Sutton, Grace Hodge and Patricia Couture all of Maine; brother Gilles and Anita Couture of Livermore Falls; sister-in-law Jeanne Couture; 67 nieces and nephews, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
