LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday night to support the town manager’s decision to not allow drivers to take a shortcut through the parking lot in front of the Police Department for safety reasons.
Manager Stephen Gould told selectmen it’s risky when police pull out of parking spaces to respond to emergencies and a vehicle is coming through the area at 25 to 30 miles per hour.
“Someone is going to get hurt,” he said.
The parking lot is off Water Street. People drive through it to get to the Municipal Building, gazebo and Foundry Road.
Restricting through-traffic reduces the risk of an accident, Gould said.
Selectman George Cummings made the motion to allow Gould to restrict the area, which the board approved.
