SUMNER — The Sumner Scholarship Fund, now in its 19th year, begins their September fundraising events with a Pulled Pork Sandwich Plate for $8 at Buckfield Community Day Celebration on Sept. 3

On Sept. 8, the Annual Bottle Drive begins with drivers picking bagged returnable bottle in Sumner. Bottles may also be dropped off at the Sumner Town Office or at Coach Terry’s Redemption Center in Turner. Last year more than 27,000 bottles were collected to support the scholarship fund.

Calendars to benefit the scholarship fund will sold during September at $10 each. The 200 available calendars feature a daily cash prize during October with a total of $1,000 payout to the winners, who are eligible to win multiple times. Calendars may be purchased at the Town Office or calling Lee Berry at 207-388-2181.

The Sumner Scholarship Fund awarded 11 residents this year with a total of $7,700. Since its beginning, 112 awards have been given out for a total of $42,200. All Sumner residents may apply for the annual scholarship and there are no age restrictions. Applications are available at the Town Office or online at www.sumnermaine.us and must be submitted by April 30 each year.

The Scholarship Fund volunteers continue to need drivers for the annual bottle drive or to take bottles from the town office to the redemption center.
