LEWISTON — Rita A. Galipeau, 88, of Lewiston died Friday, Aug. 10, at D’Youville Nursing Home. She was born in Lewiston on July 21, 1930, the daughter of the late George and Regina Gauthier Roux. She was educated in Lewiston schools and attended a school of sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress. She married the love of her life, Jean Galipeau, who predeceased her March 16, 2000, at the age of 75, after a long illness of 22 years. Jean had his own carpentry business, and Rita served as the company’s secretary. She attended Holy Family Church of Prince of Peace Parish.
Rita is survived by two sons: Daniel Galipeau and his wife, Jennifer, and their three children: Samuel, Catherine and Nathan, of Providence, RI., and Jeffrey Galipeau and his wife, Gina, of Sabattus, Maine, and their son, Tony, of Wales, Maine; another granddaughter Courtney and her two children of New Hampshire; four sisters: Jeanne Vaillancourt; Yvonne Roux OMMI.; Florence Boulet and her husband, Larry; and Lucille Tremblay; two brothers: Fr. Albert Roux and Paul Roux and wife, Pat, all of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, Jean Galipeau; a daughter, Karen Berube; three sisters: Doris, Georgette and Monique; and one brother: Reginald Leo.
Rita will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. May the angels accompany her to our Eternal Father in Heaven.
