BANGOR — Rogers Post scored nine straight runs to beat Bangor 9-4 in the opening round of the Jr. American Legion state tournament Friday.
Bangor took an early 4-0 lead, but Rogers Post stormed back by scoring one run apiece in the third, fourth and fifth innings, and then six more in the sixth.
Jake Arel came in to pitch in the fifth and ended up securing the win for Rogers. He also hit a single and a double. Luke Josephen started the game and pitched five innings and allowed five runs. Adrien Melanson had two of Rogers’ eight hits.
Bangor’s Keegan Cyr and Max Clark each had two hits and James Neel added a double in the loss. Kevin Fish pitched five innings and gave up three runs for Bangor.
Rogers Post faces Messalonskee in the second round Saturday at 7 p.m.
