LISBON — Richard “Dick” Rines Sr., 89, of Lisbon Falls died Saturday, July 21, at Bolster Heights, Auburn. He was born in Plymouth on Dec. 11, 1928, to Cleveland and Margaret (Pelkey) Rines.

He married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Jane McCarthy, on July 4, 1945.

They resided in Lisbon and raised three children of their own and fostered many others.

He was employed at Smith & McCarthy’s Garage, Miller Industries and finally Lisbon School Department, which he greatly enjoyed.

Dick always had a smile and a joke to tell. If you asked him how he was doing, his reply would be, “Hanging in, hanging out and hanging on.”

He was predeceased by his nine siblings; his wife, Betty; daughter, Julie; and granddaughter, Jobeth.

Surving him are his sons Richard Jr. and wife, Joan, Roger (Pudgy) and wife, Diane; grandchildren Chad, Cleveland, Ezra, Erica (Fallon), Katie; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also, his companion, Glenys Morton, her family and grandson, Adam Loss, whom Pops helped raise.

The family would like to thank Bolster Heights and Beacon Hospice for the excellent care they provided during this time.
