Society to celebrate birthday

FARMINGTON — Farmington Historical Society will celebrate its birthday with party hats, Farmington Bingo, cake and more.

The society will meet for potluck at 6 p.m. Monday, July 23, at North Church, 118 High St., followed by a business meeting.

SeniorsPlus office hours in Norway

NORWAY — SeniorsPlus will be in Norway from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, July 23, at the Norway Town Office. 

Representatives will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns community members may have about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.

Community forest planning meeting

BETHEL — The Bethel Community Forest Planning Committee meeting will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Bethel airport for carpooling.

Those attending will explore the community forest property with foresters Patrick Smerczynski and David DeGruttola.

The event is open to the public.

Stargazing with Tom Hoffelder

NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library will present a stargazing program with Tom Hoffelder from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24.

Hoffelder is a retired aeronautical engineer and local astronomer. For the past 43 years, he has owned at least one telescope and as many as four. He will share a presentation on the basics of identifying what is in the night sky.

He will also include all that is going on in the sky this summer with a total lunar eclipse, Mars at opposition, Delta Aquarid meteor shower, Venus at greatest eastern elongation, and Neptune at opposition.

His talk will allow for audience questions, and light refreshments will be served.

American Legion concert re-dedication

OXFORD — Oxford American Legion will hold a re-dedication of the Ted Heidrich Memorial Concerts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Legion’s Memorial Park where a permanent plaque will be installed on a stone.

Music will be provided by the popular High Ryder Golden Oldies Show from Portland.

“Ted, a Korean War Veteran was committed to his country and state, he worked diligently as a community leader, and a dedicated Legionnaire where he was an advocate for veterans issues,” said Post Commander Rick Nugent.

Refreshments will be provided by the Sons of the American Legion. In the event of rain, the event will take place inside the Legion Hall.

CPR, first aid class offered

OXFORD — There will be a Heartsaver CPR and First Aid class at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Oxford Public Safety Building, 701 Main St.

Students will learn basic first aid; adult, child and infant CPR; and proper use of an AED. On successful completion of the one-day class, they will received a two-year certification in accordance with the American Heart Association. This certificate course is accepted for day/child care providers, loggers, guides, teachers and any other non-health care related professions.

Those attending should call to confirm the date. Groups may also request to schedule a class at their convenience. 

Health care BLS CPR re-certifications are done as needed one-on-one.
