NORWAY — The Lakes Association of Norway will hold an erosion control workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 21, on the northeast side of North Pond to educate property owners on best practices for reducing erosion.

The workshop, at the intersection of Jackson Lane and Beaver Way, will focus on driveways, roads, ditches and culverts. The work done at that site will demonstrate several best practices that can be applied elsewhere.

Norway’s lakes have been experiencing an increase in phosphorus and algae in recent years. In response, the Lakes Association of Norway has started mitigation on North Pond, one of our most at-risk water bodies.

The North Pond Watershed Protection Project is a locally led effort, initiated by the Lakes Association and supported by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District and Androscoggin River Watershed Council. Its goal is to address soil erosion, and prevent it from degrading the water quality of North Pond.

Those planning to attend are asked to please contact the Lakes Association of Norway at laon@norwaylakes.org, or call Sal Girifalco at 207-743-1808.
