PARIS — The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted Monday evening to look into promoting the benefits of living in Paris.
The issue arose after Selectman Gary Vaughn said he did not think the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce represented the town well in one of its recent magazines.
“I truly believe that we’d have a lot more input and control if we had Paris… promoting itself,” Vaughn said. “If we lay this on ourselves, we only have ourselves to blame.”
He suggested the town not rejoin the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce next year and instead, take that money to market Paris.
Selectman John Andrews agreed and said he had spoken with Turner Publishing about putting together a magazine that would feature “articles detailing the essence in and around Paris: the workforce, our development, the potential quality of life, the stability of the (tax) rate.”
Selectman Scott Buffington said marketing “shouldn’t just be for tourism.”
“It’s about marketing our town and attracting people here,” he said. “We could tailor some articles for potential investors.”
Andrews agreed to continue speaking with Turner Publishing to see what it would take for the town to publish a magazine twice a year with articles centered around Paris.
Paris Selectmen Gary Vaughn, left, and John Andrews speak at Monday’s meeting about the possibility of the town promoting itself via a magazine filled with articles on what Paris has to offer.
