RUMFORD – Selectmen will adopt the annual town meeting warrant when they meet Thursday. They will also hear a presentation by engineers for the Rumford Fire Department on a proposed new fire station.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Municipal Building.

This year’s municipal budget came in at about the same amount as last year’s – $6.3 million. In addition, another $366,000 will be acted on by residents for special requests made by social service and other agencies at the June 2 annual town meeting.

Chief John Woulfe and a representative from Enterprise Engineering of Yarmouth will unveil a draft design for a new fire station. The Fire Station Task Force has been studying whether to replace the 1925 downtown brick structure for a couple of years.

If selectmen give the go-ahead, townspeople must also vote to build a new station.

In other matters, the board will decide whether to lend local landlord Don Barnett funds for the removal of a multi-unit, abandoned apartment building on Hancock Street. They will also act on several inn holder and victualer’s licenses.

A closed session is scheduled to continue fire department union negotiations and to begin negotiations for the police and highway departments.
