DIXFIELD — Fire destroyed a one-family house Saturday at 821 Canton Point Road, Fire Chief Scott Dennett said Monday.
Homeowner Carolyn Brann and her son and daughter, who live with her, were able to get out of the house without injury.
The call came into the Fire Department at 10:13 p.m. as a fire involving an outdoor wood boiler and wood about 20 feet from the home.
Upon the Fire Department’s arrival, the fire had spread to the back side of the house and into the eaves area, Dennett said.
“The (home) had aluminum siding on it and a steel roof (and) it was already burning into the eave area and into some knee-wall space in there that we couldn’t get at,” he said.
The cause of the fire was still undetermined Monday, according to Dennett.
“It may have something to do with the outdoor wood boiler malfunction or sparks and timbers from that,” he said.
Flames also spread to an adjacent shed.
Firefighters from Peru, Mexico, Rumford, Canton, East Dixfield, Jay, Wilton, Livermore, Turner and Buckfield assisted the Dixfield firefighters’ efforts to extinguish the flames.
It was approaching 5 a.m. Sunday before the firefighters extinguished the flames and left the scene.
