BETHEL – Rather than display the town’s American flags during the war with Iraq, selectmen Monday night opted to fly them after the war.

In response to inquiries from board members, selectmen voted 3-0 to put the flags up when President George W. Bush Jr. declares the war in Iraq is over. They will remain up for one week.

Last fall, selectmen OK’d posting the flags for:

• Memorial Day, from May 22 to 28.

• Independence Day and Mollyockett Days, from July 2 to July 21.

• Sept. 11, from Sept. 9 to 15.

• Veterans Day, from Nov. 6 to 12.
