NEW GLOUCESTER — A political newcomer who operates the Coolidge Family Farm, a popular wedding venue, won a state House primary by a wide margin Tuesday.
Misty Coolidge beat Democrat Robert Maheu in the 65th District race that includes New Gloucester and part of Poland.
Coolidge racked up 84 percent of the 599 votes cast in the Democratic primary. Maheu had suspended his campaign last month but remained on the ballot as an active candidate.
Coolidge will take on Republican Amy Arata in the Nov. 6 general election to fill a seat that has been held by Republican Ellie Espling. Espling is seeking to become a state senator this year.
