LEWISTON — Catherine E. Saunders, 94, of Hebron died Friday, June 8, at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

She was born July 4, 1923, in Norway, a daughter of Byron H.M. and Geraldine (McAllister) Woods. She attended local schools, graduating from South Paris High School.

Catherine went on to attend beautician school and worked as such out of her home for many years and later for Mary Harris. She also worked at Hebron Academy and later retired from Brooks Pharmacy.

She was a former member of the West Minot Grange. Catherine enjoyed taking pictures, traveling and playing cards. One of her greatest pleasures beyond time spent with family was written communication through cards and letters with many family and friends, including those with whom she lived at the YWCA decades ago while going to school in Lewiston.

She is survived by her two sons, Barry Saunders and his companion, Ruth Martin, of Turner, and Randy Saunders of West Paris; grandchildren Beth Garza and her husband, Corey, of Buckfield, Geri Saunders of Clermont, Fla., Amber Seams and her husband, Tim, of Buckfield, and Christopher Saunders and his wife, Kristina, of Turner; five great-grandchildren, Ian, Lily Cate, Jonathan, Eva and Nora; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 1976; a special friend, Ted Perry, in 2010; a sister, Lucille Conant; two brothers, Maynard and Loren Woods.
