PARIS — Sharon Jean Clark, Air Force airman 3rd class, was named Veteran of the Month at the Maine Veterans Home on High Street.
She was born May 29, 1936, in Erwin, West Virginia, and grew up in Kingwood, West Virginia. She graduated from Kingwood High School.
In November 1954, Clark enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and Otis Air Force Base in Massachusetts. She worked as a clerk for the 564th Air Defense Group and earned the National Defense service medal. She was discharged May 7, 1955.
Clark married Sgt. Hobart E. Rogers while in the Air Force and they were divorced in 1957. In 1959 she married Donald A. Clark.
She has two daughters, Debra Denise Harmon and Paula Dawn Hughes, three grandsons and two great-grandsons.
After the service Clark worked in a flower shop in Portland doing the clerical/bookkeeping duties. She worked for Keyser Elementary in Keyser, West Virginia, for approximately 20 years.
In 1993 she graduated from Pierre’s Beauty School at age 57. She owned and operated a salon in Fort Fairfield.
Clark came to the Maine Veterans’ Home in August 2016. She enjoys church services, music, activities, the kindness of the staff, her meals and ice cream.
