NORWAY — Chopsticks are more than just an eating utensil. They have a cultural and philosophical significance that few people may realize.

The Norway Memorial Library will host a program about chopsticks from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at 258 Main St.

Attendees can learn about their importance, appropriate use and practice their skills in a contest to see who can pick up the most beans in the fastest time for prizes. Chinese sweets and souvenirs will be available.

Peng Yuan Yuan, the presenter, is from the Zhejiang Normal University Confucious Institute. From August 2016 to June 2018, she was sent by the Chinese National Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International) to work as a Mandarin teacher at Oxford Hills Middle School.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 207-743-5309 or visit the library’s website at www.norway.lib.me.us.
