DEAR SUN SPOTS: The seventh annual Flowers for Food fundraiser will take place in Livermore Falls and Jay over the next couple weekends. Freshly-cut daffodils from large, local gardens will be offered to brighten people’s days while raising money for the Tri-Town Ministerial Food Cupboard. We welcome these bright spring flowers as a “flower of hope” to bring cheer and help the hungry.
Volunteers will sell daffodils at Otis Federal Credit Union in Jay on Friday, May 4. Food City will also have volunteers selling daffodils on Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, and again on May 11 and 12, Mother’s Day weekend. We are in need of volunteers for some of these sale sites.
I also hope that people with extra daffodils in their gardens might contact me. We will cut them and use them for this fundraiser. Thank you for helping relieve hunger in our communities. For more information, contact Martina Eastman at 207-897-3171 or email gnomegardens@myfairpoint.net.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have two heavy boxes of miscellaneous sheet music for piano, vocal, recorder, etc., that I would like to donate to a person or group interested in serious music. This is valuable material that my wife collected over many years of her music teaching career and I would hate to just dispose of it. Please call Roger at 207-784-8891.
— Roger, Auburn
ANSWER: You may want to be even more proactive with this donation and call your local schools and libraries to inquire if they would be interested. It’s worth a shot!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The North Auburn Cemetery Association is having a fundraiser to repair fallen and broken gravestones. Donations would be appreciated. Please make checks payable to North Auburn Cemetery Association, c/o Terry Lebel, treasurer, 625 N. Auburn Road, Auburn, ME 04210.
Gravesites are also for sale at $300 each. Family lots that can accommodate two to eight graves are also available.
Call Don Lebel, superintendent, at 207-782-4182.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We’ve got a big, fat gray squirrel coming to one of our bird feeders, but his tail is reddish-brown. My wife and I are wondering why.
— No name, Peru
ANSWER: This is kind of a common thing. I have seen these squirrels myself! Gray squirrels are not always totally gray. It could be possible what you are seeing is a fox squirrel, but not highly likely. These critters are more common in the West and in Canada, and are bigger than gray squirrels with more of a “Roman” nose.
If you can, take a photo and we’ll share it in Sun Spots. Readers, have you ever seen a gray squirrel with a red tail?
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is Reba McEntire of country-western music fame divorced from her second husband or did he pass away?
— No name, no town
ANSWER: Reba and her second husband, Narvel Blackstock, divorced in 2015 after 26 years of marriage.
