Season outlook: With nine seniors, Edward Little looks to improve on last year’s 7-6 record in 2018, the second season under KVAC Class A Coach of the Year Jim Dock. Defense will be the Red Eddies’ strength, and the graduation of 2017 leading scorer Ganan Mancini leaves a hole in their offense that will need to be filled. After sitting out his freshman season with an injury, sophomore Gunnar Winslow will make his goaltending debut this spring.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER

Coach: Kris Parkin (third year; JV the past two seasons)

Promising newcomers: Senior — Felipe Alvarez (M); Junior — Jake Kackmiester (D); Sophomores: Tristan Fogg (A/M), Jake Piela (A), Matthew Johnson (M); Freshman — Zeb Dufresne (D/LSM), Sam Tibbetts(G), Trent Overcash (M).

Season outlook: While the Patriots do not have any true varsity experience on the roster, Parkin said they do have a core group of players that have been on the team since their freshman year. That core group combined with several newcomers have put in a lot of work to improve their lacrosse skills and fitness levels. Executing in all phases of the game and limiting mental mistakes will be important this season as the GNG adjusts to the speed and overall skill level of the varsity game. Parkin said this is a hard-working and focused group that is excited for the challenge of a Class C varsity schedule.

LEWISTON

Coach: Ben Fournier (sixth year)

Conference: KVAC; Class: A

Last year’s results: 8-4 (second in KVAC; lost in Class A North championship).

Returning athletes: Seniors — Gunnar Wade (A), Conrad Albert (A), Jayden Wilson (A), Garrett Poussard (M), Ryan Bossie (D), Brendon Hanlon (D); Juniors — Tanner Cortes (M), Hunter Steele (G); Sophomore — Sam Payne (M).

Key losses: Alex Rivet (A), Roman Dennis M, Tom Jumper (D), Gordie Ide (D), Desmond Jackson (D), Bryan Wagg (G).

Promising newcomers: Juniors — Billy Blanchette (M), Lennon LaBelle (D), Trevor Eliason (D), Tyler Marcoux (M), Sophomores —Jahiem Whiting (M), Dominique Colon (D), Logan Michaud (A).

Season outlook: The Blue Devils have a solid core of returning players who will be vital in teaching the younger players. They lost some players at key spots, but Fournier said last year’s backups are ready to step up and take on bigger roles. He expects this will be a challenging year with a new schedule of teams that historically the Blue Devils haven’t seen during the regular season.

MT. BLUE

Coach: Kevin Averill (fourth year)

Conference: KVAC; Class: B

Promising newcomers: Seniors — Marshall Doyon (M), Cam Foss (M), Brian Hayes (G); Junior — Sam McFarlane (M); Sophomore — Gabe Robinson (A); Freshman — Keegan Roberts (M), Adam Loewen (LSM), Nick Fraser (G).

Season outlook: Mt. Blue returns a lot of experience from a team that lost many close games last year. The Cougars are looking to flip those outcomes and put themselves in position to make the playoffs. Averill said this is the most athletic team he has had at Mt. Blue, so the team will be able to play fast and aggressive.

OAK HILL

Coach: Joey Hinkley (third year)

Conference: none; Class: C

Last year’s results: 7-5 (lost in Class C semifinals).

Key returners: Seniors — Darren Bailey (M), Bailey Drouin (D), Bryce Harlow (D); Juniors — Noah Moring (A), Gabe Bergeron (M), Adam lapointe (LSM/D), Ethan Richard (D); Sophomores — Liam Rodrigue (M), Nate Marcotte (G).

Newcomers: Juniors — Xavior Michaud (A), Brandon Glover (G); Freshmen — Riley worth (M), Gabe Samson (M).

Season outlook: The Raiders are looking to improve on last year and get better every day.

OXFORD HILLS

Coach: Hunter Rowell (fourth year)

Season outlook: The Vikings are eager to get back onto the field. Rowell said that with a tireless, relentless mentality to the start of preseason practices, the team is ready for the challenging schedule, and its success will continue to build year by year. The Vikings have a lot of young talent in each class, and they look forward to the work to be accomplished this season.

ST. DOM’S

Coach: Tim Matteson (first year)

Conference: Western Maine; Class: C

Last year’s results: 1-11

Returning athletes: Seniors — Hunter Emery, Josh Fortin, Matt Roeser; Juniors — Cameron Palmer, Matt Gagnon, Braden Pelletier; Sophomores — Will Fletcher, Alex Roy, Robbie Dick.

Key losses: Starters at attack, defense and goalie.

Promising newcomers: Sophomores — Ambrose Ward, Eddy Huang; Freshmen — Max Comis, Gage Smith, Matt Fletcher, Dominic Brunetti.

Season outlook: St. Dom’s is young, with just three seniors and three juniors on the roster. Matteson said the Saints have worked hard in the preseason and may experience some growing pains early but should see the dividends of their hard work at the end of the year.

WINTHROP/MARANACOOK

Coach: Zach Stewart (seventh year)

Conference: KVAC; Class: C

Last year’s results: 5-7 (lost in Class B semifinal; fourth place in tournament)

Returning athletes: Juniors — Will Hayes, Colin Adair; Sophomores — Jacob Sousa, Ian Dow, Garit Laliberte, Skylar Boucher.

Key losses: Jack Vickerson, Drew Davis.

Promising newcomers: Junior — Gavin Towns; Sophomores — Arthur Lynn, Timothy Worster.

Season outlook: Stewart said the Ramblers are an extremely young team that works hard. He expect them to show up to every game and leave it on the field.
