ANDOVER — Fire crews from several towns Friday night battled a blaze at a vacant multi-family home at 133 North Main St.
Witnesses reported that the building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters began arriving shortly before 7 p.m. Flames and dark smoke were seen shooting high into the air as the building burned.
It was not immediately known whether anyone was injured. Early reports were that the Victorian house was vacant when it caught fire.
The first firefighters to respond to the blaze reported extremely slippery road conditions as they made their way to the scene. Heavy, wet snow had been falling across the region for several hours when the fire was reported.
North Main Street is also Route 5 and North Andover Road.
Crews from Roxbury, Mexico, Rumford, Peru and other towns joined Andover firefighters at the scene. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to assist with an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
