Community Recycle Day announced

LEWISTON — Community Recycle Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at 40 Stanley St.

Local organizations are joining forces to offer the community a convenient and free way to recycle items such as tires, televisions, printers, cell phones, eyeglasses and documents to be shredded.

SHAREcenter will be onsite gathering craft materials, art supplies and more.

Craft event planned before Mother’s Day

LISBON FALLS — A Mother’s Day craft event will take place on Sunday, May 6, at the Masonic Lodge, Oak Street. There will be two sessions: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dads are invited to bring their little ones to make a napkin holder for Mom. All supplies will be included.

Elks seek donations for sale

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Elks Lodge will hold a huge indoor garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

The lodge is accepting donations subject to inspection for the sale. Items can be dropped off between 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, April 15 to 19, at the Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St.

Hamburgers and hot dogs with chips and soda will be sold throughout the day. For more information, call 207-212-1452.

Scholarship opportunity for ELHS seniors

AUBURN — The Edward Little High School graduating Class of 1976 has established a Memorial Scholarship to honor class members who have died. The first scholarship in the amount of $1,976 will be awarded this year to a graduating senior.

The annual fundraising event is a Memorial Walk, which will take place this year on the Whitman Spring Road (Spring Road), at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 9.

Bog Hoot Quilt Society meeting

MECHANIC FALLS — Area residents who enjoy crafts and companionship are invited to join community and church members at the Anglican Church of the Transfiguration (formerly the Mechanic Falls Congregational Church) on Elm Street for the Bog Hoot Quilt Society meeting.

The group meetis at 10 a.m. Tuesdays. The entrance to the downstairs is from the driveway to the church.

There are plenty of tables for quilting projects, an ironing board and a cutting board, and the coffee pot is on. Participants are invited to bring any project they are working on, including knitting, crocheting and needle crafts, or they may join in on church projects.
