Ralph Peters is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel. Until recently, he had been a regular commentator on military affairs for Fox News. He was a reliable and harsh critic of ex-president Obama’s military policies — for example, calling out Obama’s Syria strategy as “inept, ineffective and cowardly.”

Peters recently quit Fox, and not with a whimper, but a bang. It appears the good colonel took his oath to defend the Constitution seriously.

In his resignation email, Peters didn’t hold back his disgust with Fox News and, by extension, the current administration, which it serves as the chief propagandist.

Peters wrote, “When prime-time hosts — who have never served our country in any capacity — dismiss facts and empirical reality to launch profoundly dishonest attacks on the FBI, the Justice Department, the courts, the intelligence community (in which I served) and, not least, a model public servant and genuine war hero such as Robert Mueller — all the while scaremongering with lurid warnings of ‘deep-state’ machinations — I cannot be part of the same organization, even at a remove. To me, Fox News is now wittingly harming our system of government for profit.”

In my view, that is a harsh, but accurate assessment of the situation facing America today and Fox’s role in propagating the nihilistic fantasies flowing from the White House.

In contrast with the current president, both Peters and Mueller honorably, even heroically, served this country in the military.
