AUBURN — The School Committee will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2018-19 school budget at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Auburn Hall.

The spending plan is $44.1 million, up 5.6 percent from $41.7 million for 2017-18.

Taxpayers would be assessed 2.6 percent more than this fiscal year, which ends June 30. A property valued at $150,000 would see a tax increase of about $34.50.

Superintendent Katy Grondin has said the budget would pay for five more teachers in classrooms and reduce some class sizes at four schools. If the public supports the budget, “we’d be able to address class size issues, improve the math department at Edward Little, maintain programs and help our bus fleet while having a reasonable impact on taxpayers, ‘” Grondin said March 14.

The public will have the final say on the school budget at the June 12 referendum.
