PORTLAND (WGME) – A fundraiser for a Project Graduation in northern Maine is sparking controversy online, after recent school shootings in Florida and Maryland.

A 9 mm gun is being raffled off.

The parent who donated the gun sees no problem with the prize. She just wants to help raise money so students can have a safe and alcohol-free party after graduation from Hodgdon High School.

Michelle Crane, a parent who owns MACS Trading Post in Houlton, promoted the raffle on her Facebook page.

She says they’ve raffled off guns before, and always raise a good amount of money, but declined to say how much.
