LISBON — St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church is offering a free seminar, “Misguided Justice: The Trial of Jesus,” led by the Rev. Dr. Frederick H. Giese, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 24.

“This presentation will allow you to take a look behind the curtain. Discover how certain men corrupted Jewish and Roman law to send Jesus to the cross,” said Giese.

Giese supports the vibrant ministry of St. Matthew’s as teaching pastor, where he preaches monthly, leads the Thursday night Bible Study Men of Jesus Obviously (MOJO) and serves on the board of Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO).

Giese served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman and with units of the U.S. Marine Corps. He received two Purple Heart medals for wounds received in combat in 1968. After retiring from the Navy in 1988, Giese became an occupational hearing conservationist and manager of the Audiology Department at the Brunswick Naval Air Base.

While working in Brunswick, Giese became aware of his call to ministry. In 2010, he received his master of theology degree from the College of the Open Bible Institute and Theological Seminary of Greenville, South Carolina, and in 2011 was ordained a minister of the gospel by his seminary.

In 2012, he received his doctor of ministry degree from the same university. From 2012 to 2015, Giese belonged to a pulpit-filling ministry in Maine until he accepted his current position at St. Matthew’s.

Giese and Vicki, his wife of over 30 years, live in Lisbon. They have one son, Jason.

St. Matthew’s Church, 496 Lisbon St., founded in 1906, brings together contemporary worship with ancient ritual, Bible-based preaching, expressions of the Holy Spirit and loving service to others. The Rev. W. Beau Wagner is rector.
