LEWISTON — The Central Maine Human Resources Association is offering a program for employers, big and small, about wage and hour issues on Tuesday, March 20, at the Carriage House, 1119 Lisbon St.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the workshop starting at 7:45 a.m.

Presenters will be Steven McKinney, community outreach and resource planning specialist for the Northern New England District Office of the United States Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division; and Scott Cotnoir, director of the Wage and Hour Division for the Maine Department of Labor.

They will address more advanced wage and hour pitfalls, touching on hours-worked scenarios, overtime exemptions, including permissible deductions from salaried employees, and common pitfalls with overtime. They will also discuss alternative payment approaches such as the fluctuating workweek, commissions, and using different rates for different tasks.

Depending on interest, they can also address how to compute overtime for tipped employees, exemptions specific to different industries such as auto dealerships, seasonal/recreational establishments/13(b)(1) drivers and loaders, comp time for government employees, and exemptions for some types of employees compensated on a commission basis. Questions may be emailed in advance to: rwebber@sta-law.com.

Cost for the program is $25 for nonmembers; free for members. There is time to network before and after the program. Registration online is preferred and available at www.cmhra.org.
