5210 Let’s Go!, a nationally-recognized childhood obesity prevention program that helps create healthier communities, announces that several area HealthReach Community Health Centers have been selected as Let’s Go! Sites of Distinction.
Recently recognized were Mt. Abram Regional Health Center in Kingfield, Rangeley Family Medicine in Rangeley, Strong Area Health Center in Strong and the Western Maine Family Health Center in Livermore Falls.
HealthReach Community Health Centers have partnered with Let’s Go! since 2013. During the past year, the various health centers engaged children and families with the 5210 message (five servings of fruits and vegetables, two hours or less of recreational screen time, one hour or more of physical activity, and 0 sugary drinks) through posters in the waiting room and in every pediatric exam room.
In addition, the staff utilized the Healthy Habits Questionnaire and measured patients’ body mass index, or BMI, at every well-child check to begin conversations with patients about healthy weight and overall wellness.
The health centers further engaged the community with the 5210 message by creating and distributing regional summer and winter activity resource guides to patients. These guides provide information about local outdoor and indoor activity resources to aid families in remaining active throughout the year.
