AUBURN — Richard E. Nason, 88, of Minot passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Hospice House in Auburn with his loving family at his side following a short illness. He was born in Auburn on Aug. 6, 1929, a son of the late John and Gladys (Parker) Nason. He grew up in the Auburn area and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of 1948.
After high school, Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in March 1953.
When he returned home to Maine from his service in the military, he worked for many years for New England Telephone at the central office as an equipment installer and technician until his retirement in 1989.
Richard was a past member of the Minot Moonshiners Snowmobile Club, the New England Telephone Pioneers and the New England Chapter of the Model-T Club of America.
He will always be remembered for his love of hunting, snowmobiling, working around the house, cruising around in his Model-T and occasionally indulging in ice cream and Kentucky Fried Chicken. He will also be remembered for the passion he had for his family. Though never married or having children of his own, his extended family was very important to him. Whether it was being involved in extracurricular activities, giving advice or just helping them out in need, he was there and they were very grateful to have him in their lives. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his sister and three brothers, Arlene Johnson of Poland, John Nason Jr. of Minot, Robert Nason of Auburn and Donald Nason of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three siblings, Albert Nason, Barbara Leighton and Harold Nason.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all of the nurses, doctors and staff on T-3 at CMMC, First Light Home Care and the Hospice House in Auburn for their compassionate care and devotion showed to Richard during his time of need.
Condolences may be shared with the family at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
