Every year it seems like you end up getting your wife the same thing for Christmas, a bottle of her favorite perfume, some boxed chocolates and anything else she hints at voraciously. This year, you want to surprise her with a romantic trip for two. She has wanted to visit a bed and breakfast for years, and this Christmas, you’re making it your mission to fulfill that dream.
In order to select the right bed and breakfast for your romantic getaway, you must do your homework. If you already have a destination in mind, you may start your search there and consult the Yellow Pages for a list of bed and breakfasts in that area. If you don’t have a particular destination in mind and are just looking for a high-quality bed and breakfast, you can conduct a general search online. Chances are you will uncover several highly rated bed and breakfasts, some near by and some farther away.
Create a list of all of the possibilities, bearing in mind the travel time to get there, and start the comparison-shopping. Find out where the bed and breakfast is located in town and make sure it will accommodate your needs. If you are looking for a quiet sanctuary, then a bed and breakfast in the center of a bustling downtown area may not work. Check out the local attractions and activities as well as any offered by the bed and breakfast. You want to ensure that you and your wife will have plenty to do while visiting the area.
Find out how long the bed and breakfast has been in business and if it is affiliated with any national hospitality associations. Check out the Web site and study all information provided. If a photo gallery has been provided, review it. Find out everything you can about the rooms, including what amenities they offer such as private baths and balconies, TVs or wireless Internet capabilities.
Find out how much the fees are. The rooms should be reasonably priced for the season and the area. Check out any discounts offered as well as special packages and deals with local restaurants. Know what everything will cost before you make reservations.
As you study the bed and breakfasts on your list, cross off any that don’t suit you. Then contact those remaining and ask for brochures and additional information. Learn everything you can about the establishment and don’t forget to ask for and check out all references provided.
Once you have made your final decision, check your wife’s schedule, arrange for childcare if needed and book your stay. The bed and breakfast may provide you with a gift card. If not, buy your own and find a clever way to present it to your wife. She will no doubt be surprised and pleased with your efforts and look forward to the chance to spend some time alone with you.
