He was born on Aug. 2, 1947, in Lewiston to Roland and Simonne Robert. He attended St. Peter’s School and graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1965. While at St. Dom’s, he was a standout hockey player and a member of New England championship teams in 1964 and 1965.
Ray enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. He served in the Philippines and in 1968 was attached as a Combat Air Controller to the 1st Marine Air Wing in Phu Bai, Vietnam, during the Tet Offensive.

He owned and operated a masonry contracting business for nearly 40 years before retiring in 2011.
Ray enjoyed time spent with family. At family gatherings he was quick with a joke and kept everyone laughing. He took pride in his tomato garden, some years growing up to 100 plants of different varieties. For many years he was an avid ice fisherman and he especially looked forward each year to fishing the remote lakes of northern Maine with his father and his brother. Soft-spoken and kindhearted, Raymond was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. He lived life on his own terms and will be dearly missed by all who were close to him.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his son Rodney and wife, Tonya, and their children, Samantha and Klayton; great-grandchild Madelynn; his daughter Kim Chabot and husband, Don; his brother Normand Robert; his sister Jacqueline Pettengill and husband, Michael; sister-in-law Dianne Moncrief and husband, Charlie; nieces, Trina Robert Elsman and her daughter Alexis Elsman, Jennifer Robert Beaule and husband, Zach, and Kelsey Bisson and husband, Brian; and nephews, David Moncrief and Matt Pettengill.
