BATH — The Chocolate Church Arts Center announces its New Year’s Eve party featuring Pat Colwell & The Soul Sensations at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, at 804 Washington St.
“We chose to look to our friends in the Newfoundland time zone for a unique twist to New Year’s Eve,” Jennifer DeChant, executive director of the center, said. “We will ring in midnight according to that time zone (10:30 p.m.) so it leaves plenty of time for revelers to be home in time for resolutions when the clock strikes midnight EST.”
According to DeChant, in Newfoundland during the Christmas season there is a long and varied history of home-visiting by mummering, mumming, or janneying, as it is commonly known today, typically involving a group of friends or family.
“It will be a fun evening because our ‘mummers’ are a part of this high-energy, 100 percent old school R&B revue complete with female backup singers, a full horn section, and a show that will knock your socks off,” DeChant said.
Pat Colwell & The Soul Sensations perform a mix of Motown/Memphis soul music. The band covers soul classics from Sam and Dave, The Supremes, Wilson Pickett, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Prince and Bruno Mars.
Tickets are $50 each in advance and $60 at the door. Tickets include catered refreshments, choice of party favors/noise makers and a beverage.
There will be a designated dance floor and cash bar. Snappy casual, Newfie-style attire is encouraged.
Tickets are available by calling the center box office at 207-442-8455 or online www.chocolatechurcharts.org.
