The Cougars continue rebuilding with their fifth coach in the last seven years in Charlie Castonguay, and less varsity experience than they’ve had at any other point during that stretch.

“We’ve got a lot of growing to do,” said Castonguay, whose previous stops include coaching girls’ teams at Oak Hill and Leavitt. “We’ve got some things we need to change. We’ve got some good leadership helping the younger kids realize the amount of time they need to put into it.”

Senior point guard Marshall Doyon is the lone returning starter, and junior Garrett Reynolds, the other co-captain, is one of their top perimeter threats.

They don’t have much size, so they will have to play good defense, box out to keep bigger teams off the boards and generate some offense in transition.

With just two seniors on the roster, the hope is to get the young nucleus some experience and give the program some continuity going forward.

“We’ve got to get better each game and work harder each night in practice and learn from our mistakes,” Castonguay said.
