LISBON — Fire crews made quick work of a Wednesday afternoon blaze that filled a house with smoke.
Witnesses at the scene said smoke was blowing out from beneath the eaves of the two-family home at 16 Douglas St. when the fire was reported just before 4 p.m.
Officials said it appeared the fire started in the basement and filled the house with smoke.
Lisbon firefighters, who had been investigating an odor of propane in another part of town, were assisted by crews from other towns, including Sabattus, Lewiston and Topsham.
Firefighters remained at the scene later Wednesday night, blowing smoke out of the house and investigating the cause.
The house is at the corner of Lisbon and Free streets.
