LEWISTON — Deep-cleaning in all rooms continued Wednesday at Longley Elementary School after mold was found in the building earlier this month.
Mold was found in two administrative offices and two classrooms. It has since been cleaned and removed and the rooms are safe, Superintendent Bill Webster said Wednesday.
The mold affected two people, the principal and a secretary, Webster said. That led to the school being closed Nov. 13 to have the mold professionally removed.
In the process, mold was also discovered in two classrooms, a pre-kindergarten room and a second grade classroom, Webster said. The mold stems from heating and cooling systems, air conditioning and independent heating units, he said.
Webster said as far as he knows, no students were made sick from the mold.
On Wednesday maintenance workers were cleaning ceiling tiles in the cafeteria, Longley maintenance worker Greg Bradford said.
The work was deep-cleaning as opposed to mold mitigation. Cleaning every room “would be helpful easing concerns,” he said. “We are not only testing every room, but we’re also doing a thorough cleaning to make sure we are eliminating dust and dirt particles.”
