MINOT — Town Administrator Arlan Saunders told selectmen Monday night that a paving contract has been signed with Pike Industries for Strawberry Lane, Sunset Drive and Lower Road.

The paving is scheduled to start next week, weather permitting. 

The board previously voted to accept a bid from Pike Industries to be paid with surplus from the paving fund. 

Saunders said the Maine Department of Transportation notified the town that it will pave Center Minot Hill Road from Woodman Hill to Jackson Hill, and Jackson Hill Road to Young’s Corner Road next summer. 

Saunders also said the salt shed floor has been paved and the winter sand pile is up.

In other business, the board voted unanimously to renew the Maine Wedding Barn’s liquor license. Owner and operator Barbara Fogarty said they had 13 weddings there this year, and have 21 scheduled for 2018. 

“I live across the street from the barn and we’ve never had a problem,” Selectman Eda Tripp said.

Selectman Daniel Gilpatric said the town has never received any complaints about the venue. 

Also at the meeting Fire Chief Dean Campbell said during his report that the town didn’t have too much damage from last week’s storm. He said it was mostly running around picking up broken trees. 

He also said there was a small stove fire because a woman hid her Halloween candy in the oven, forgot it was there, and went to preheat the oven for baking. 

“It smelled like burnt chocolate and fire extinguisher fluid,” he said.
