DEAR SUN SPOTS: Fairbanks School Meetinghouse, 508 Fairbanks Road, Farmington, will host a warm-clothing giveaway on Monday, Nov. 20, in conjunction with the Care and Share Food Closet Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway. The event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Donations are being accepted for any warm clothing for children and adults, including coats, jackets, socks, boots, hats, mittens, snowsuits, pants and sweaters. We also are accepting blankets, comforters and sheets. Any help would be appreciated. ANSWER: I love reusing and recycling, especially if it’s for a worthy cause. This is a great place to not only donate the gently used possessions you no longer need but also to find all sorts of “new-to-you” goodies, including clothing and shoes, jewelry, furniture, home decor, sporting equipment and vintage delights.

The shop is at 85 Lincoln Ave. in Rumford and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the second Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Briar Patch Greenhouse is 85 Highland Terrace in Mexico.

Hope Association is an organization that assists individuals with intellectual disabilities by providing whole life services. Your patronage and donations are very much appreciated. DEAR SUN SPOTS: After reading about the SeniorsPlus Honor Flight meeting in your Thursday, Nov. 2, column, I felt compelled to write and encourage families of World War II and Korean veterans to attend the meeting or to contact Honor Flight. My father, WWII veteran Ralph Merrill, who turned 95 last Friday, returned Oct. 29 from an Honor Flight trip. Our family cannot begin to tell of the effort this organization puts forth for the men and women who have served our country.

Do not hesitate to go or send your beloved veteran. They will be extremely well-cared-for by a personal guardian and shown heartfelt thanks beyond belief from perfect strangers. It doesn’t cost the veteran a cent (not even parking at the Jetport)! If you don’t have a veteran to send, please consider a donation. All funds stay in Maine.
