LEWISTON — Mexican chicken soup, lemon lentil soup and others can be sampled at the 5th annual Soup, Chili and Chowder Challenge to benefit patient care at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Hospice House.
The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Baxter Brewing Company. Tickets purchased in advance cost $10 for adults; $5 for children ages 5 to 12; age 4 and under, free. Tickets are available at Baxter Brewing, 130 Mill St.; Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave.; and the Hospice House, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn. Tickets will also be available at the event but cost $2 more for adults and $1 more for children.
Those who attend will be able to sample all of the soups, chowders and chilis entered by cooks who are competing for prizes and bragging rights. Celebrity judges will determine the Judges’ Favorite award winner, while other event-goers will cast their votes to decide the People’s Choice winner. Live music will also be provided.
All recipes will be included in a cookbook, which will be available for $3. In addition, there will be a door prize and a 50-50 raffle. The event is organized annually by the Dream Team, one of several groups that raises money during the year and makes its final donation at AHCH’s annual Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walks. These events will take place in May.

LEWISTON — ??The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus will hold a Take-Out Beans event from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, to raise money to help defray maintenance costs for the church hall, 1080 Lisbon St.
A package special in pints can be purchased for $8 or quarts $10, or “a la carte” with prices as low as $3 for a pint of beans.
The KC raised $880 to purchase winter coats, which will allow members to purchase four cases of coats, at the October event.
