AUBURN — Alfred “Fredi” von Aesch, 64, a resident of Chesterville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 9, 1953, in Switzerland, the son of Friedrich von Aesch and Anna (Bandi) von Aesch. He attended school in Switzerland and graduated from University of Basel earning a degree in electrical engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer for Sulzer Bro. LTD, in Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. On Oct. 11, 1986, in Nevada, he married Dorene Bailey of Maine. They returned to Switzerland where they lived for six years before moving to Maine and making their home in Chesterville. After moving to Maine he worked for Livermore Shoe, Farmington Shoe and Acorn Shoe doing maintenance; he also worked for Diaz Corp. and Delecto Bros., and later operated his own small-engine repair shop. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed all animals, especially skunks and wolves.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dorene von Aesch, of Chesterville; his daughters, Toni Anne Morse of San Diego, Calif., Jaclyn Ellis and her companion, Nate Richards of Chesterville and Tanya von Aesch of Chesterville; his grandson, Aidan Look; his brother, Fritz von Aesch and his wife, Elfie; two nephews; and one niece, all of Switzerland; his mother-in-law, Ella Wilkins of Livermore Falls; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews in Maine. He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Terese Sommer.
