WINTHROP — Sophomore quarterback Keegan Choate ran for two touchdowns and passed for a pair to lead Winthrop/Monmouth to a 27-18 victory over Old Orchard Beach in football action Friday evening.

Senior split-end Greg Fay caught a 33-yard pass from Choate in the third quarter to put the Ramblers up 21-18, and Winthrop/Monmouth never looked back.

Dylan Boudreau had an impressive 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give the Seagulls (1-1) and early 10-0 lead.

Wells 35, Spruce Mountain 0

WELLS — Nolan Potter ran for three touchdowns and Wells used a goal-line stand just before halftime to shut out Spruce Mountain 35-0 in a Class D South football game at Warrior Memorial Field on Friday night.

Potter ran for scores of one yard in the first quarter and six yards in the second. Coincidentally, the Warriors (2-0) defense held the Phoenix (1-1) at the 1-yard line with 24 seconds to play in the first half, and stopped a fourth-down play at the 6-yard line to keep it 14-0 at halftime.

Michael Wrigley threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Bridge early in the third and Potter added his third scoring run later in the period. Chad Fitzpatrick finished up the scoring with a fourth-quarter touchdown run.
