AUBURN — Lewiston native and former mayor Jim Howaniec will address the Auburn-Lewiston Rotary Breakfast Club at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, on the referendum to merge the cities of Lewiston and Auburn.
Howaniec will provide an argument against the merger, a question that will be on the Nov. 7 ballot.
Howaniec is a lifelong resident of Lewiston. He served as mayor of Lewiston in 1990-1994 and is a former state assistant attorney general. He has maintained his own law practice on Lisbon Street since 1991.
He is chairman of the Coalition Opposed to Lewiston-Auburn Consolidation, a grassroots organization comprised of former and current local elected officials and private citizens opposed to merger of the Twin Cities.
Tickets are available at the door and include breakfast. The Wednesday breakfast meetings are held at the Park Street Methodist Church.
