LEWISTON — Paul J. Guay, 80, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his bedside on Sunday, Aug. 6, at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 19, 1936, the son of the late Levi and Yvonne (Levesque) Guay.
Paul graduated from St. Dom’s in 1956. On May 3, 1958, he married the love of his life, Lorraine (Leblanc). He was a devout Catholic, regularly attending mass at Holy Cross Church. Paul loved to work; he was a finished cabinet maker/carpenter for Hebert Construction for many years and worked on various projects at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Church, St. Mary’s, Central Maine Medical Center and many homes in the community .
He attended St. Louis parochial school and played one year of hockey. While at St. Dom’s, Paul was the president of his class and played varsity football all four years, where he was the captain of the football team. During his high school days, he met the love of his life, Lorraine Leblanc, and courted her, taking her to many high school proms and events.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and sports, such as hockey, soccer and football. He attended many school activities of his children and grandchildren, including soccer, hockey and softball, and celebrated five Maine state high school hockey championships.
Paul is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Lewiston; his four children, Daniel Guay and wife, Laura, of Greene, Susan Pepin and husband, Michael, of Auburn, Denise Guay Shareef and husband, Jassim, of Mich., and Jeffrey Guay and companion, Stacey Deslaurieres, of Lewiston; his sister, Ann Dusfresne and husband Bob of N.H.; his two brothers, Maurice Guay and wife, Jeannette, of Lewiston, and Leo Guay and wife, Jackie, of Lewiston; his eight grandchildren, Greg, Tom, Joel, Ashely, Aimon, Zaid, Sarah and Jenan; his four great-grandchildren, Levi, Perla, Owen and Nathan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his grandson, Ryan Guay.
