CHESTERVILLE — The first Chesterville Family Fun Day to be held in years is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 12, with a rain date of Aug. 13.
During the budget process last fall, Kim Lessard asked if money could be raised next year for a townwide event. Selectmen instead added $1,000 to this year’s budget. Voters approved it at town meeting and a planning committee has put together a schedule of activities.
Some events have been sponsored. Donations are being sought to offset additional costs. To donate or for more information call the Town Office at 778-2433 or Lessard at 713-8419.
At 9 a.m., the parade will line up at the north end of Valley Road near Route 156. The theme is “Blast from the Past” and pre-registration is not required. There is no charge to participate and ribbons will be awarded. For more information contact Greg Soule, 897-4907.
At 10 a.m. the parade will proceed to the Town Hall on Dutch Gap Road. The Color Guard will raise the American flag and names posted on the Memorial Wall will be recognized.
For $5, names of former Chesterville residents and others may be placed on the wall. Later it will be posted in the town hall. Payment must be received at the Town Office before Aug. 1. For more information, call the Town Office at 778-2433, or Kathy Gregory at 860-8801.
Other activities begin at 11 a.m. The Chesterville Fire Department will sponsor a Horseshoe Tournament. For more information, call John Archer, 778-9228.
Two bounce houses and an inflatable obstacle course for all ages will be set up in the ball field. Welch’s Garage, Chesterville Farm Mercantile and Androscoggin Bank are sponsoring the obstacle course. There will be exhibitions, a petting zoo, children’s games and face painting.
There will be a skillet toss competition for women and a hammer toss for men.
A dunk tank, sponsored by Guy Iverson, and a jail will also be part of the fun. Nominations to place a person in the dunk tank can be made for $5 at the Town Office prior to Aug. 1. If that person doesn’t wish to participate, an additional $5 must be paid. To attempt to dunk someone, three balls can be purchased for $1.
For $1, attendees may place a person in jail for 10 minutes. To get out early, $1 must be paid.
Beano and children’s crafts will be offered inside the town hall.
Vendors will display a variety of items to buy from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A 10-foot space is free for Chesterville residents, $15 for all others. Tables and other items must be provided by the vendor. Reservations are required prior to Aug. 5. To register call Gregory, 860-8801.
The planning committee will be selling water, popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones. Proceeds will go toward an event next year.
The Chesterville Heritage Society will be selling burgers, hot dogs, chips and soda. Barbecued chicken with a roll, coleslaw, pickles and chips can be purchased with or without soda from the North Chesterville Extension Homemakers.
WKTJ will be broadcasting remotely and musicians performing live.
