JAY — A Livermore Falls man is accused of driving drunk Wednesday morning after the vehicle he was operating went off Main Street, crashed into a building, bounced off and hit the retaining wall in front of St. Rose Parish Hall.

Christopher Martin, 33, was issued a summons on misdemeanor charges of operating under the influence and violation condition of release, Detective Michael Mejia said.

Martin is out on bail for an unrelated OUI charge, he said.

He also had “a conditional Q license which you are not allowed to have any alcohol at all, zero tolerance, and if you are found to have any amount in your system while driving you can be charged criminally,” Mejia said. “If the test results are below .08 percent (blood alcohol content) or the driver is not truly ‘impaired’ they can still be charged with operating without a license,” he said.

Martin is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 26 at Farmington District Court. A blood kit was used at the hospital and blood alcohol content results are pending, he said.

The accident was reported at 6:31 a.m.

Martin complained of pain from an underlying back condition and was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington as a precaution for further medical evaluation, Mejia said.

He said Martin was “disoriented” and “confused” when he arrived.

Martin was driving a 2001 Ford Focus south on the road, also known as Route 4, when it veered off and it struck the brick portion of The Scissor Wizard building at the corner of Main and Jewell Street. The car continued on and struck the wall head-on in front of the church hall on the Jewell Street side, he said.

The car had significant front-end damage with air bag deployment.

There was a pretty significant gauge in the brick portion of the beauty salon building, he said.

Jay Fire Rescue Department assisted Mejia at the scene.
