PORTLAND (AP) — Michael Chavis hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, leading the Portland Sea Dogs to a 3-2 win over the Reading Fightin Phils on Sunday.
The home run by Chavis scored Henry Urrutia to give the Sea Dogs a 2-0 lead.
After Portland added a run in the sixth on a single by Jeremy Barfield, the Fightin Phils cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Carlos Tocci hit an RBI single, driving in Zack Coppola.
The Fightin Phils saw their comeback attempt come up short after Mitch Walding scored on a ground out in the eighth inning to cut the Portland lead to 3-2.
Portland starter Henry Owens (1-1) picked up the win after allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings. Opposing starter Tommy Bergjans (1-2) took the tough loss in the Eastern League game after allowing two runs and three hits over five innings. Bobby Poyner recorded his third save of the season.
